AFL Grand Final Raceday Transfer

The scheduled meeting for 25 September 2010 (AFL Grand Final Day) at Mornington has now been transferred to Betfair Park (Sandown) for this year only.

Unfortunately due to cold weather and high rainfall over winter, the grass surface has not established as well as we would have hoped by this time. With this in mind the Club has decided that in the best interests for the longevity of the surface, that we prolong the return to racing at Mornington by a further three weeks to allow better growth of the root system.

We are fortunate that through the recent merger we now have the ability to transfer the full meeting including the $100,000 RM Ansett Classic to Betfair Park so that the raceday still sits under the banner of the merged Club. All membership entitlements remain in place for this meeting as for all meetings at Betfair Park.

The Club is offering a free bus service to it's Members for the transferred raceday. To reserve a seat on the bus please contact the Mornington Racing Club on 5975 3310 by 5pm Friday 17 September 2010.

The Mornington Racing Club held a Special General Meeting on Friday 4 June 2010 for the merger between the Melbourne Racing Club and the Mornington Racing Club. The club had an overwhelming response of over 500 votes. All four resolutions have been passed by the members and the merge is set to take effect 1 August 2010.

Mr Rod Fenwick, Chairman of the Mornington Racing Club said that by merging the two clubs, a strong new entity will be formed. "We are combining the most successful country club of recent times with the metropolitan club with the strongest balance sheet and most race dates in Victoria," he said.
